TransAlta Hydro Tour

Interested in seeing a hydro generation plant? Join EEESA and IEEE Student Branch( IAS/PES Student Branch Chapter) on a tour to TransAlta’s Spray and Horseshoe stations this March to learn about renewable energy!

Date: March 3, 2018

Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm

We'll meet at ICT beside Good Earth. Transportation to and from the site will be provided!

Lunch will not be provided so please pack your own. Snacks will be provided throughout the day.

Schedule

8:00-10:00 – Meet on campus at ICT and travel to Canmore as a group

10:00-11:00 – Orientation and presentation at the Spray Office [Canmore]

11:00-12:30 – Tour of the Spray generating station [Canmore]

12:30-13:30 – Lunch [Canmore]

13:30-14:00 – Travel from Canmore to Seebe

14:00-15:30 – Tour of the Horseshoe generating station [Seebe]

15:30-17:00 – Return back to university campus

Cost

$12 per student (to cover transportation costs)*

* IEEE Student Members will be refunded after the tour

Technical Elective Night

Are you trying to figure out what classes to take for third and fourth year? The Energy and Environment Students’ Association (EEESA) is having our Annual Technical Elective Night on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Specialization Homeroom, ENG 03.

This is a great opportunity for all ENEE students to talk with profs and figure out which courses most appeal to their interests.

Pizza and refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

EEESA is holding it's first Tech Talk of the year! EEESA's Tech Talks give students an opportunity to hear how companies incorporate and practice sustainability as well as the chance to speak with a professional working in an area related to sustainability/environment. For this event, our speaker will be Laura Margetts from Husky Energy!

 

Join us January 25th from 6 PM - 7:30 PM in ICT 122 for a pizza and a presentation on how Husky incorporates sustainability into everyday business.

Co-generation Plant Tour

EEESA is excited to bring you a tour of the co-generation power plant located on-campus!

There will be two tours happening on Tuesday, November 28th at 1:30 and 2:30 PM. We will be taking approximately 15 students on each tour so if you are interested, please fill out the following form to let us know.

If you are planning to attend the first tour at 1:30 PM, we will be meeting at 1:10 PM outside the EEESA Specialization Homeroom (ENG03), and then walking to the plant together. 

If you would like to attend the second tour, please meet us directly at the cogen plant located west of the Yamnuska residence building. Plan to be there 5-10 minutes early to ensure the tour can start on time.

San Francisco Trip Information Session

This year Energy and Environment Engineering students will be returning to San Francisco from February 18 to 23, 2018. This is an educational trip to learn about emerging sustainable technologies and green energy companies. If you're interested in participating in the trip, make sure to come out to the info session on Thursday November 23 at 6pm in ENG 03!

The trip is open to anyone in engineering, but priority will be given to students specializing in Energy and Environment Engineering.

EEESA is hosting an ENEE Student & Prof Mixer on Monday, November 20th from 6PM to 8PM in the Scholar's Lounge (McKimmie Block MB 202)!

Come join us for this fantastic opportunity to mingle with your ENEE professors in a friendly and casual setting, ask them about their research and summer research opportunities, talk to them about their courses, and build a good relationship with your professors. Food and refreshments will be provided.

EEESA/BMESS PUMPKIN CARVING

Come out and join EEESA and BMESS on October 31st from 3PM to 5PM in the ENGG Lounge for a spook-tacular pumpkin carving social. Pumpkins are $5 each (you need to reserve one using the google form below, and bring $5 to the event), and there will be prizes for the most spooky pumpkin! 


You can sign up in teams of 2-3, only one person per team needs to reserve a pumpkin and a list of their team members. Individuals are more than welcome - sign up alone and we will be matching you into a team.

Are you interested in finding an internship position relating to your Energy and Environment specialization? Do you want to find out more about what options you have in the energy and environment engineering industry? 

If yes, then come out and learn about previous interns, their work experience and how they got their position! The floor is open for all questions from the audience, and you can learn all the tips and tricks for how to be successful during your internship! There will be time to mingle and network with the interns afterwards...
